This calculator uses the total surface area you enter and assumes standard 4×8 drywall sheets, which cover 32 square feet each. It then applies your waste allowance and rounds the recommended purchase quantity up to a whole sheet.
Drywall formula
Area ÷ 32 = base number of 4×8 sheets. Multiply that result by 1 plus the waste percentage, then round up to the next whole sheet.
Measure walls and ceilings separately
For walls, calculate each wall area and add them together. Add ceiling area separately if it will also receive drywall. Subtract large openings only when doing so improves the takeoff for your job.
Waste depends on layout
Sheet orientation, room shape, cuts, openings and ceiling details can affect waste. The editable waste field lets you use a project-specific allowance instead of one fixed number.
